Look! A shiny thing! Yes, I admit to being easily distracted. Here it is, nearly the middle of January, and I’m just now putting into words on paper, words that have been in my head since Christmas.
Some random thoughts about the new year.
I don’t do resolutions. They don’t work for me. Getting resolute to follow through is difficult. The real truth? It’s an impossible task for a lazy person who procrastinates.
Many people do goals instead of resolutions. Goals have a better ring because they are targets, not resolute accomplishments. One aims at goals and works to achieve them. Coming up short is not damaging to self-esteem because you got close enough, or, made strides toward getting there.
Goals are difficult for me because, look! A fox!
Again, I’m an easily distracted, lazy, procrastinator.
For me, the best thing to do is to let each day be a brand new day. Enjoy the moment as it unfolds and pray that I do what I can in that moment to make the world and life around me a better place.
The one constant is “butt in chair.” That’s what a writer has to do. Show up and write. My novel is coming along. Names of some characters have changed, one person will die by gunshot today, and soon another will blow up because of a suspicious gas leak, burning down the main character’s home and all the possessions she holds dear. Fiction is so much fun!
Whatever your plans, resolutions, or goals are for 2017, make it a good one. May peace, health, and happiness be bountiful this year.
